What is Iyengar yoga?
Iyengar yoga is a precise, alignment-based form of yoga developed by B.K.S. Iyengar. In plain terms: it teaches you how to do each pose well — safely and with intention — rather than rushing through a workout. We use props like blocks, belts, and bolsters so that every pose is within reach, whatever your age or starting point. The result is a practice that builds strength, flexibility, and a calm, focused mind, one careful step at a time.
What your first class is like
You arrive
Come a few minutes early. There’s plenty of parking, and Charles will welcome you, show you around, and set you up with everything you need.
You practise
You’ll work at your own pace with clear, hands-on guidance. Charles moves through the room, helping and explaining — nothing is expected of you but to try.
You leave lighter
Most people finish feeling calmer, taller, and surprised by how much they enjoyed it. When you’re ready, you join a term at the pace that suits you.
What to wear & bring
- Comfortable clothes you can move in — no special gear needed.
- Bare feet (yoga is practised without shoes or socks).
- A water bottle, if you like. That’s it.
- All mats and props are provided — bring your own only if you prefer.
Common questions
Do I need to be flexible or fit?
Not at all. Flexibility is a result of practice, not a requirement for it. We use props and alignment so the poses work for your body exactly as it is today.
I’ve never done yoga before — is that okay?
Completely. Our All Levels classes are welcoming for beginners, and your first class is free so you can try with no commitment. Charles is known for making first-timers feel at ease.
I’m older, or recovering from an injury. Can I still come?
Yes — this is exactly what Iyengar yoga is good at. The careful, prop-supported approach makes it safe and accessible at any age, and our gentle Minor Ailments class is designed for working with stiffness, aches, and mobility concerns.
Is the first class really free?
Yes. Your first class is on us. Just send a message to let us know you’re coming and we’ll save you a spot.
Where are you, and is there parking?
We’re in Warren Grove, about ten minutes west of Charlottetown, at 2235 North York River Rd. There’s ample free parking right at the barn.
Not ready to book yet?
No problem. Join the list, and we’ll let you know when the next six-week term or beginners’ course opens — your free first class will be waiting whenever you’re ready.
